Criminology & Forensics

Karnatak   Science College   Dharwad

Department of Criminology and Forensic Science started in the year 1965. It imparts training in various aspects relating to Police, Criminology, Penology, Victimology, Forensic Science, Criminal Law, Forensic medicine etc. Courses are offered for both B.Sc. and B.A. Degrees.  It is housed in the Main building with specious lecture hall, Museum and Laboratories.

Prof. S.B. Bandyal, Dr. B.C. Mogali and Dr. M.G. Huddar have conferred with the fellowship of Indian Society of Criminology.  Dr. B.C. Mogali and Prof. V.Y. Waddin have worked as the members of B.O.S. of Mysore University. Dr. B.C. Mogali was nominated as syllabus committee adhoc member in Police Science of M.S. University Tirunelveil (Tamil Nadu).

 

III. Academic Programmes / Other activities:

 

The Department arranges Exhibition during Traffic and Crime Prevention Week with the co-operation of the local police.  The Department has setup a Museum with the collection like forged currency notes and counterfeits coins, models of various kinds of injuries, burns, drowning etc. and Photograph describing different types of fingerprints and the contribution of various scientist in the field of Criminology and Forensic Sciences.

 

Criminology study circle arranges various seminars, symposia, debates and elocution competitions to train the students in the academic pursuits.

 

Study Circle and Indian Society of Criminology Dharwad branch had jointly organized Symposiums on some of the burning Social Problems namely ‘Ragging among the college Students’ (1995), ‘Suicides by the Farmers of Karnataka’ (1998), ‘Terrorism’ (1999) etc.

 

The Department had the privilege of hosting the XVth annual conference of the Indian Society of Criminology in the year 1986.  Nearly 300 delegates from all over the country attended the conference.  Out of the savings of the conference and donations of the past students, a Gold Medal was instituted in the memory of the Founder, Head of the Department, Late Prof. K.P.Venkateshmurthy.  The Gold Medal is awarded to the meritorious student in the Annual Convocation of our University.   

Consultancy services are rendered by the faculty members in the Department about fingerprints, ballistics and document examinations.
