Libraries & Reading rooms: The Arts and Science Colleges together have a central library named after the late Prin. V. K. Gokak. There are seven independent sectional libraries with reading rooms, housed in each science department viz. Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Geography, and Criminology and Forensic Science. The Padmashri Gokak library started functioning from 20-06-1917 from the very day the Karnatak College came into existence. Being the oldest library in this part of the country, it has a large and valuable collection of books which exceed a lakh in number. About 2000 titles are added every year and about 60 periodicals are subscribed too. The library has its own magnificent building with spacious halls accommodating about 200 students.
There are two text book libraries : 1) U.G.C. 2) Student Aid Fund. The library is normally kept open from 9 a.m to 9 p.m on all working days. There is a library committee which guides the library in getting books and other related materials. The rules and regulations to be followed by the students can be had from the librarian. The departmental libraries are housed in the various Science Departments and the concerned Heads of the Department may be contacted for details.
