Geology

Karnatak   Science College   Dharwad

Department of Geology was established in the year 1961, as an independent Department under Karnatak University, Dharwad.  It offers Courses for both B.A. and B.Sc. Degrees. 

 

I. Infrastructure Facilities:

Independent Library with reference books: 01

(of more than 1000 books)

 

Important Instruments: Microscopes, Ph.meter, Resistivity meter

surveying Materials.

 

Geology Museum: 01

 

The Geology Department has a Geological Museum, where the field samples brought by the students – numerous representative specimens of rocks, minerals are systematically arranged.  It is one of the best Geological Museum of South India.

III. Research Activity:

 

Many of the faculty members use their expertise in giving borewell location for domestic and agricultural purposes and extend social work on rain water harvesting, roof harvesting Social foresting etc.  one of the member Dr. J.T. Gudgur has presented research paper on quality of drinking water in the international symposium held at Kathmandu, Nepal and represented India in the 24th International Post Graduation Diploma in Hydrology at VITUKI, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY. In all the Department has produced as many as 15 research Publication. 

 

IV. Academic Programmes / Other activities :

 

Department of Geology study circle arranges various seminars and goup discussions to train the students in the academic pursuits.

 

As the mineral wealth forms the backbone of the Industries and hence of National Economy and this subject deals with its study, there is much scope for well-trained Geologists.
