Department of Physics was established on 20th June 1917.  Physics was then the only compulsory science subject.  In order to keep pace with the latest developments, Electronics subject was introduced in 1994 and Computer Science in 1995 ,with PME, PMCs, Stat MCs as the combination of subjects available for choice by the aspiring students taking up the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programme.

More than half of the presents teaching staff members have a Doctorate Degree in Physics. All of them have published research articles in journals of both national and international repute.  They are invited and have attended workshops as resource persons, as judges for district level competition in science and in other fields.

IV. Academic Programmes:

 

    Many lectures, exhibitions and demonstrations have been arranged by the faculties of the Department.  Seminars, tests and tutorials are conducted regularly for the degree students in addition to the regular theory (lecture) and practical classes.
